In honor of Police Week, TruckVault® would like to honor a few of the many men and women who have paid the ultimate price for our safety. Every day officers are prepared to make similar sacrifices so that we don’t have to. Here are just a few stories that touched us at TruckVault. Please take the next chance you get to thank an officer who is working to make the world a better place. These heroes’ information was taken from the Officer Down Memorial Page. Radulescu, 44, was a Washington State Patrol Trooper and Army veteran when he pulled over a vehicle in Western Washington in February of 2012. He was unaware that the vehicle was being driven by an armed, convicted felon.

When Radulescu performed a passenger side approach of the vehicle, the driver opened fire. Later, a deputy went to check on Radulescu and found him lying near his patrol car. Radulescu was then taken to a medical center in Tacoma where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle was found abandoned approximately three hours later. A SWAT team was deployed to the owner’s home and as they approached the suspect committed suicide. Radulescu is now remembered by his son. Thank you for your service.

Leath, 24, was an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department when she responded to a domestic disturbance call. When she arrived, a subject fired through the apartment’s door and hit both Leath and another resident of the apartment.

Leath and the other victim were taken to a local hospital where Leath passed away. The subject was taken into custody and was charged with murder and attempted murder.

Leath was a veteran of the National Guard and was part of a law enforcement family with two parents who served with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and had two sisters who have worked in corrections. The Indiana Women’s Prison’s Nursery has since been renamed the Officer Breann Leath Maternal & Child Health Unit. She is remembered by her 3-year-old son. Thank you for your service.

K9 Harlej, 5, and his handler were pursuing a suspected drunk driver shortly after midnight. After a vehicle pursuit, the subject exited his vehicle and fled on foot. Harlej tracked the man into a wooded area.

Harlej was off-lead when he located and bit the subject. During the apprehension the subject shot and killed Harlej and the handler took the man into custody.

Harlej the Belgian Malinois had proudly served the Fishers Police Department for four years. Our four-legged friends make sacrifices too. Thank you for your service.

Dickerson, 28, was making a traffic stop at 2 am in Gary, Texas. During the stop, the driver exited the vehicle and opened fire on Dickerson with a semi-automatic rifle and fled.

Nearby residents heard the gunshots and found Dickerson in the roadway. He was taken to a local hospital where he died shortly after.

The subject who shot Dickerson fled to Louisiana where he was later apprehended by a police K9 and charged with capital murder. Dickerson is remembered by his two daughters. Thank you for your service.

Lomax, 44, was returning home after his shift when he came across a single-vehicle accident. Lomax attempted to assist the victims of the accident when he came into contact with a downed electrical line which proved to be deadly.

Lomax had served a combined 27 years for 3 different departments and had served as a volunteer firefighter. He is now remembered by his sons. Thank you for your service.
